Programs and Services
With representation on numerous governmental health committees and task groups, as well as frequent interaction with Manitoba Health and the Regional Health Authorities, the Manitoba Schizophrenia Society provides leadership around policy development and mental health initiatives throughout Manitoba. It has been a leader in bringing various mental health groups together in a coalition to speak with one united voice in approaching government. MSS advocates for a recovery oriented mental health system, sufficient funding for community supports and services, evidence-based programs, primary health care and a population health approach in working toward an integrated mental health system in Manitoba. MSS was instrumental in encouraging Manitoba Health to undertake a Mental Health Renewal Plan initiative, which promotes a primary health care model realizing that the determinants of health affect the recovery process of those with mental illness.
