Simulated Experience of Hearing Voices That Are Distressing
This specialty workshop was developed by Pat Deegan of the National Empowerment Centre. Through the use of a headset, participants move through several workstations as they experience "auditory hallucinations". The goal is for participants to have a better understanding and greater appreciation of the "consumer experience" rather than judging the person as lazy or unmotivated. This is the Society's most requested workshop. Suggested for caregivers, family members and professionals who work with people who hear distressing voices, this workshop seeks to promote a greater understanding and awareness of the “hearing voices” experience.
Pre-registration in groups of 14 to 20 participants, or individual requests can be accommodated.
